Alan Butler Spring Lake Competition - Sponsored by Pont Steffan Dental Practice

The best turnout for many years saw 14 anglers compete for the Alan Butler trophy at Llyn Brenig on 18th June. The event was fished to international flyfishing rules in good conditions on Wales’s premier competition venue. Good cloud cover, warm conditions and light winds meant the fish were not far down in the water allowing favoured top of the water techniques to prevail. Carl Scourfield found the fish below the island as did last year’s winner, Mark Rickard. A nip and tuck battle ensued resulting in Carl taking 13 fish versus Mark’s 12 - Carl’s bag was 6 ounces heavier than Mark’s giving him the win this year along with a cheque donated by Pont Steffan Dental Practice for £50. Mark Rickard’s second place gave him a cheque for £30 and Bryan Hughes and John Williams tied for third place with John’s 6 fish weighing the same as Bryan’s 7. The heaviest fish was also a tie with Conrad Jones and Carl Scourfield sharing the £20 prize for a 4lb fish each.

Bank maintenance

There will be a bank maintenance day on 12th March 2016 starting at 10am, meet at the Top Pool - all are welcome. If you can attend, please bring along a loppers, saw, hedge cutter or similar and a pair of gardening gloves. If you don’t have tools of any description please come anyway as there’s plenty to go around. The day will go on until about 3pm so bring a packed lunch too. This will be followed by a few beers and the Wales v England International in the comfort of the Feathers Hotel followed by a curry later on. Once again, all welcome.

Guest angler invitation week

The Club will again run a new initiative this season. From 13th to 19th June inclusive, any ATAC member can bring along one guest to fish the Club waters free of charge. The guest angler must be fishing with the Club member at all times and must adhere to all Club rules. EA rod licenses are required to fish and these are available on a daily rate if the guest does not hold a rod license. Note that a migratory trout and salmon license is needed to fish the Aeron - these are (at time of writing) £8 per day, £23 per 8 days or £72 per season (concession season £48, juniors 12-16 £5 per season and children under 12 can fish for free).
